One of the Top PC companies in the world needed a quick, high-quality process for distributing their early release alpha and beta products to various locations around the world.
The challenge: Our customer has 3 development sites on the West Coast and 2 on the East Coast. They needed CD’s and DVD’s duplicated, 4 color printed with the highest quality and distributed to Asia, Europe, South America and North America.
The Solution: We established a process where the 3 sites uploaded their final content(data and graphics) to a central server. Crc values are tested on the customer side and on SMG’s end for verification of the data. Label and print pdf’s are sent to the customer for approval. Product is duplicated, printed, packaged and shipped through our fulfillment services group. All orders are shipped within 48 hours of the release of the content. Outstanding customer for the last five years
Customer Feedback:
“Well……SMG rocks! That’s all I can say. I honestly never thought this would work so seamlessly. From content exchange through the timely tracking information, you do a wonderful for us. Thank you!

Weekly and monthly distribution services for a nationally-known publisher:
The challenge: Time-sensitive information needs to be distributed weekly to a database of over 800 customers. The information cannot be distributed electronically due to the size of the file(700MB) and the sensitivity of the information. The database and mailing list is ready every Monday at 3:00 and distribution must be completed by the end of the day every Tuesday.
The Solution: After trying several vendors with varying success, SMG proposed a solution utilizing our T1 capability, our large capacity for CDR duplication and thermal printing and our assembly/mail services. Using our proprietary FTP/ crc error checking software, the customer uploads the 700MB file to our secure server every Monday evening along with ASCII files of the mailing label. SMG downloads the file on our second shift, error checks the file, prepares the CD label to a pre-designed template, and prints out the mailing labels. Our first shift Tuesday duplicates the 800+ plus CD’s using 24 of our 52X drives, thermal prints the labels on one of our 4 Rimage Perfect Image automated thermal systems, inserts the CD’s into a Univenture™ mailing sleeve, and applies the postage and mailing label through our Neoposte™ automated mailing system. The completed product is picked up by the U.S. postal service by 4:00.
Enhancements and Other Services: Our customer(along with SMG) is constantly looking for ways to reduce costs, improve turnaround, and find new and better ways to serve their customers. SMG supports some of their older technology by providing 3.5” disk duplication services along with some of their newer technology through our DVDR5 and DVDR9 production services. In 2005, they asked us to help redesign their packaging to reduce printing costs, mailing costs, and streamline the look and feel of their mailings. Working with Univenture, we eliminated a 7x9 mailer and unnecessary documentation and reduced their per unit mailing costs from .83 to .37 a package, a savings well in excess of $30,000/year.
